Pisa

19/04/2025

From the 13th to the 21st of April, my boyfriend came to see me in Italy. We decided to visit Pisa in the meantime (from the 16th to the 19th). We wanted to see the symbolic monument that is the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

What did we do during this trip?

We arrived on the 16th of April, and even though it was raining, we immediately went to see the famous tower. In fact, there many monuments to see in this specific part of the city called ‘Piazza dei Miracoli’. Indeed, you can visit the cathedral, the ‘Camposanto Monumentale’ (a cemetery), the ‘Museo delle Sinopie’, and many other sites. All of it is really impressive to see.

The next day, we took a walk and explored the streets of Pisa. We also visited the botanical garden which is near ‘Piazza dei Miracoli’. It was created in 1544, making it the oldest botanical garden in the world.

On the 18th, we decided to go to the other side of the Arno river. There, we visited ‘Palazzo Blu’, which is named after its blue colour. We saw an interesting exhibition about the liberation of Pisa during World War II. Then, we went upstairs and visited the private apartments, as it used to be an aristocratic palace. After leaving the palace, we went to see Keith Haring's famous piece of art ‘Tuttomondo’. He painted it on the rear wall of the ‘Sant'Antonio Abate’ church. Finally, we took a walk on the medieval walls of Pisa, which offered us a beautiful view of the streets and monuments of the city.

A quote about Pisa

‘Pisa is not just a leaning tower; it is a leaning city full of balance, beauty, and history.’
